Luis López Guerra, “El Convenio Europeo de Derechos Humanos según la jurisprudencia del Tribunal de Estrasburgo ( Tirant lo Blanch, 2021, 391 págs.).
Luis López Guerra’s new book involves a study of the substantive rights of the Convention from the perspective of an expert who knows about it, thanks to his experience as of the European Court Judge for ten years. This perspective is reflected in various parts of the book. To begin with, the title of the work highlights how the Court’s judgements makes it possible to understand, in its entirety, the system of protection offered by the Convention. In addition, an adequate knowledge of the rights of the Convention takes on its most meaningful from the author’s approach: the perspective of its authentic interpretation by the Court. This makes it possible to understand the scope and limits of human rights, not only in relation to the case in question that is decided by the court; Rather, based on the erga omnes value of the Judgments, general guidelines are made recognizable for the jurisdictional bodies and administrative authorities of the different countries that have signed the Convention.
