Fernando de los Ríos Urruti (1879-1949)
Abstract
The text examines the life and career of Fernando de los Ríos Urruti (1879-1949), a prominent Spanish jurist, philosopher, and politician associated with the Socialist Party. His work ranged from teaching Political Law to active participation in the Second Republic, where he held several ministerial positions, notably as Minister of Justice and Public Instruction. He was instrumental in the PSOE's opposition to the Third Communist International and advocated for reforms such as the Divorce Law and gender equality in the workplace. His writings include reflections on political philosophy, law, and socialism. After the Franco regime's rise, he went into exile in New York, where he led the Republican government in exile until his death in 1949.
