Abstract

This article examines the figure of Antonio Cánovas del Castillo, highlighting his influence as a statesman and his legacy in 19th-century Spanish politics and constitutionalism. Key aspects of his life are analyzed, including his role in the Restoration, the creation of the Constitutional Monarchy in Spain, and his contributions to political and historical thought. His extensive literary and academic activities are also highlighted, along with the political and social challenges he faced as head of government. Despite his tragic assassination in 1897, his impact remains recognized as a cornerstone of Spanish political history.
