The islamic veil and the right to one's own image
Abstract
The article examines the freedom to configure physical appearance as a fundamental right linked to the right to one's own image, protected by Article 18.1 of the Spanish Constitution. It analyzes emblematic cases regarding the use of the Islamic veil and other religious or personal symbols, highlighting tensions between this right and other constitutional values, such as public health, education, and gender equality. The article also reflects on the scope of regulations and jurisprudential decisions in Spain and the international context, particularly in France and Turkey.
